The Swedish Company Pergo invented laminate floorings in 1977. The first product was marketed to Europe in 1984 and later in United States in 1994. Firstly, the decorative laminate was used on kitchen tables or wall painting, but not for floors.
Being less expensive than other types of flooring makes it a reasonable solution to install it by yourself. The first thing to do is to remove any existing trim, then make sure the surface is clean and perfectly dry. Cut the boards just to fit the room and start to install the first three rows of flooring. The second thing is to begin gluing the rows. After this, wipe off the excess glue. And the last thing, let the glue dry at least six hours before moving your furniture into the room. Floors are walked on and suffer a lot more normal abuse than any furniture.
When it comes to care and maintenance, the laminate floor is considered to be low-maintenance compared with wood floor because it doesn't require waxing or staining. As with almost all floors, the laminate floorings must be kept clean. Every sand particle or dirt can scratch the surface. Try to keep the floor dry, but the advantage is that the water spills are not a problem as they can be wiped quickly.
As you already know, there are advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that this type of flooring does not need waxing or staining and it is made to look just like natural wood, beautiful, shiny and trendy. It is less expensive than other types of floorings- this may represent a good reason for many people to choose the laminate floorings for their homes. On the other end, there are the disadvantages. One of them is that this floor does not have such a great value for your home. Just be careful with the installation and try to follow all steps.
